Dependency of the Dimethyldihydropyrene Photochromic Properties on the Number of Pyridinium Electron-Withdrawing Groups

While substitution with one or two pyridinium electron-withdrawing groups improves the dimethyldihydropyrene (DHP) photoswitchability, the use of four pyridinium groups has a surprising detrimental effect. The authors report a theoretical study comparing the excited-state properties of these DHP compounds. A rationale for this unexpected behavior is provided based on topological features of the potential energy surfaces and symmetry arguments.

Fractionating and Purifying Softwood Kraft Lignin with Aqueous Renewable Solvents: Liquid-Liquid Equilibrium for the Lignin-Ethanol-Water System

Synergism in phase : The global phase behavior for lignin-ethanol-water mixtures is determined over a range of temperatures, solvent-to-lignin ratios, and EtOH/H2O solvent mixtures. Regions of liquid-liquid equilibrium are located in which lignin can be simultaneously fractionated and cleaned through the ALPHA process. The solvent-water synergism previously discovered for the renewable solvents acetic acid and acetone continues to be present for ethanol.

Aqueous Calcium-Ion Battery Based on a Mesoporous Organic Anode and a Manganite Cathode with Long Cycling Performance

Abundant and durable : An aqueous calcium-ion battery (CIB) based on mesoporous silica SBA-15 with a two-dimensional hexagonal through-hole structure is reported. Poly(3,4,9,10-perylentetracarboxylic diimide) (PPTCDI) organic material supported on SBA-15 is used as the anode, with good stability and performance. The SBA-15@PPTCDI‖ Ca2MnO4 aqueous CIB demonstrates a high energy density with a high capacity and excellent cycling stability.

Moving from binary to ternary blends of active materials in cathode materials for lithium ion batteries provides a versatile design beyond the properties of the individual components. Synergistic effects improve the rate capability, power, thermal, and chemical stability of the blend. Overall advantageous performance is achieved while economizing 25 % cobalt and nickel of a NMC622 based electrode.

Tuning of the Oxygen Species Linker on the Surface of Polymeric Carbon Nitride to Promote the Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution Performance

Good connection : Effective charge separation is achieved by tuning the surface oxygen species linking site of polymeric carbon nitride, resulting in a high photocatalytic hydrogen production rate of approximately 10 225 μmol h−1 g−1 under visible light irradiation (λ>420 nm) and an apparent quantum efficiency of 5.7 % at 430 nm. The high hydrogen production was associated with the transformation of the oxygen species linker from −C=O to N=C−OH and then −C−O−C−.

A new mechanism for selective recognition of cyanide in organic and aqueous solution

We report that 3,5-dinitro-(N -phenyl)benzamide is proposed as a simple colorimetric and fluorimetric chemosensor for selective determination of cyanide anion in organic and aqueous solutions via novel chemodosimeter approach named as nucleophilic aromatic substitution of hydrogen (NASH). Moreover, novel biological important benzisoxazole derivative has been synthesized with cyanide-induced ring closing mechanism.

Special emphasis is on the cross-coupling reaction between 2-bromoanilines and a 2-nitro-substituted arylboronic acid, for which there is little existing precedence.

In this work, we revisited the main achievements in indium-catalyzed multicomponent reactions, showcasing the versatility of the different indium-based catalysts, from simple indium powder, to inexpensive and easily available indium salts, to more complex heterogeneous catalytic systems, such as indium-based metal-organic frameworks and nanoparticles.
