BOARD MEMBER

Emilia Paone, Consigliere

Dipartimento di Ingegneria Industriale
Università degli Studi di Firenze

Emilia Paone is a Post-Doc researcher at Department of Industrial Engineering at Università degli Studi di Firenze. In 2015 she obtained her MSc degree in Chemistry at the Università degli Studi di Messina and since then, she moved to the Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria in order to start a PhD course in Civil, Environmental and Security Engineering (curriculum “Science and Technology, Materials, Energy and Complex systems for distributed computing and Networks”), working in the Chemistry Research Group. She obtained her PhD in April 2019.

Her research activities lie in the field of heterogeneous catalysis with particular emphasis on the valorization of biomass derived molecules through the catalytic C-O bond breaking promoted by heterogeneous Pd-based catalysts. In particular, her research project is focused in the catalytic transfer hydrogenolysis (CTH) of lignin for the sustainable production of aromatic feedstocks.

Currently, Emilia is working in the field of eletrochemical sensors for the development of nanostructured materials as nanodetectors for metallic ions in solution.

Since 2019, she is a board-member of the Young Group of the SCI, representing the Division of Industrial Chemistry. For this 3-years activity she would like to involve young students and early stage researchers in the dissemination of industrial chemical culture and in the beauty of chemistry.
Besides being a chemist, she loves the sun, the sea and a glass of good wine (maybe more than one single glass).
